Choosing The Right Dog Bed

Are you in need of a good night’s sleep without great big paws or a fluffy wagging tail waking you up? I’m sure all you want to be able to is completely star fish without being pushed over to one side by your sprawled out pooch! Big dog or small dog – we all know they require plenty of room to find the most perfect of positions. We think choosing a dog bed can sometimes be tough, so here’s a quick helpful guide on finding your beloved dog the right bed at Yorkshire Trading Co.

  1. WHERE IN YOUR HOME WILL IT LIVE?

Have a little think about where you want your dog’s new bed to live. They will take up a lot more room than you think! Some of our pet beds can range from 50cm right up to 90cm in length! Also take in to account where your dog will feel most comfortable taking a nap or bedding down for the night. Make sure it’s not close to anything that might get hot like radiators and don’t let them catch a chill near a window or door that has a draft.

  1. GETTING YOUR DOG USE TO ITS NEW BED

If like most of us, your dog always seems to find its way in to your bed at night – it’s a good idea to get them used to their own bed. We do love them very much, but enough is enough. If you’re having trouble, here are a couple of hot tips… 1. At first it’s a good idea to lay the bed next to your dog whenever it’s having a chill out time or nap. This way they will probably find the comfiest place to sleep which will eventually be their new dog bed. 2. Try and find out where your dog feels most comfortable. Do they love to sprawl on the cold, hard kitchen floors? Do they love to curl up in a ball beside the sofa when the fires on? Put the bed in one of those places. That way, whether you’re at home or out, your dog will go to where it feels most comfortable.

  1. DOES YOUR DOG LIKE TO BE ALONE?

The last thing you want when after turning the TV off, grabbing a glass of water and heading up to bed for a long snooze with your eyes already half closed is your pooch barking at the bottom of the stairs because they want to come with you. One thing to consider is to try and give your dog everything they need in order to go to sleep stress free. (I know what you’re thinking – all these demands… It’s like having children! But to be fair, to most of us – it is!) Trust us, it will be worth it. Try giving them their favourite chew toy, a cuddly teddy or even an old blanket with your scent on it. Also, make sure they have something to drink and you should be in for a quiet night.

  1. DO THEY FIT IN IT & ARE THEY COMFY?

Does your dog like to be sprawled out and stretch their legs and sleep? Take that into account when choosing the bed – the last thing you want is for them to have to crunch up when they don’t want to. If they like to curl up and get as warm and cosy as possible, be aware that they still need to be able to stretch out on their bed so make sure the size you choose can accommodate this.

  1. TYPES OF DOG BEDS

We like to showcase a variety of dog beds for you to choose from to make sure your dog has only the best. Whether that be our comfortable fabric topped floor cushion design which will allow for your dog to both curl in a ball, sprawl, stretch or run… in their sleep! This is especially good for any dog who likes to chew things as it’s made from a hard-wearing material. If you don’t opt-in for this style, be prepared to return home to a demolished dog bed.

Then to our printed oval beds which features soft, supportive and comfortable padded sides to ensure that your dog feels safe and gets the good night’s sleep it deserves. Or even a cute matching dog print padded mattress to provide maximum comfort for your pet weather it wants to take a nap or get comfy by the fire. It’s also very practical due to its removable cover, allowing for an easy wash.

But don’t take our word for it! We have our very own mischievous mascot here at YTC, Hattie - a beautiful white and golden spaniel who absolutely LOVES our dog beds. Woof woof!
